Event Venue in Eastern Helsinki

Kurkimäki Community Centre offers versatile spaces for various celebrations, performances, events, occasions and teaching activities.

The venue comfortably accommodates up to 170 people and is especially well suited for different types of performances. The hall is equipped with high-quality, versatile production technology and supported by experienced staff. For private events, you may bring your own food and beverages. The space is approved for serving alcohol.

The premises are maintained by the non-profit association Toimintakeskus Semja ry. By renting the space, you support the association's activities as well as the local urban culture, community work and hobby opportunities.

LOBBY

The spacious lobby of the community center comfortably accommodates even a larger group. 

BUILDING

The Community Center was completed in 1988, and the premises house Children's Culture Center Musikantit as well as units of Kurki and Kuovi kindergratens.

HALL

The multipurpose hall is suitable for meetings, performances, parties, and rehearsals.

Kurkimäki Community Center

The building designed by Sakari Aartelo and Esa Piiroinen was completed in March 1989. The space is on a single level, which makes mobility easy even for people with reduced mobility. The surrounding grounds are park-like and lush.


Lobby

The lobby is accessed through the main entrance at street level. Its floor area is approximately 150 m² and includes an entrance area, coat racks, a play area, restrooms, a café, and a lounge space.

The lobby is furnished with round tables of various sizes, chairs, and sofas. The furniture was updated in 2024.

The space is equipped with a background music system with Bluetooth, a microphone, a 55" 4K Android LED TV, and, in addition to general ceiling lighting, ambience and spot lighting with adjustable colour.

Community Center Hall

The total floor area of the hall is approximately 200 m², with 14 × 9 m of unobstructed floor space. The height of the room is 4.9–5.9 m. The floor is grey-painted wood; the walls are white or light wood, and the back wall of the stage is painted black.

The space has two entrances from the lobby and a rear door leading directly outside, allowing equipment to be brought onto the stage.

Other Facilities and Services 

Parking:

The property's grounds accommodates approximately 30–40 cars. On weekdays, parking is limited to a maximum of 4 hours with a parking disc. Additional parking is available on Karpalokuja street.

Public transport:
The nearest metro stations are Kontula and Myllypuro. The closest bus stop is about 300 metres away.

Covered patio:
From the lobby, there is access to a covered patio in the backyard, which connects directly to the playground.

Local shops:
K-Market Kurkimäki is just a few minutes' walk away. Additional services can be found in Kontula and Myllypuro.

Front of House Tech

The hall is equipped with comprehensive presentation technology: a digital mixer, moving lights, a video projector, a retractable projection screen, and skilled staff ready to help make your event the best it can be.

Renting Prices

By renting this space, you also support the activities of the community center. There is always at least one caretaker on site to assist with event arrangements and to take care of opening and closing the facilities.

Prices valid from 1 August 2023. On public holidays and other special dates, special pricing may apply. 

Reservation Fee

The reservation fee is €100, payable  by invoice or online payment in advance.

Security Deposit

Depending on the nature of the event, a security deposit of at least €250 will be charged. The deposit will be refunded on the next business day after the event, provided no damage or extra cleaning is required. The deposit is paid by online payment or bank transfer.

Cancellation

Free cancellation up to 14 days before the event.
For cancellations 14–0 days before the event, the full rental fee will be charged.
